GHANA INTERNATIONAL AIRLINES

Ghana International Airlines (GIA) originated as a joint venture between confidential international investors and the Ghana government in 2004. It took over the out of commission Ghana Airways. GIA became the national flag carrier in 2005 and flies out of the Accra Kotoka International Airport. It is located in Accra, Ghana. Ghana is a country situated in West Africa near Nigeria.

The first daily flights offered flew from Accra to the London Gatwick Airport. Seasonal flights to Johannesburg, South Africa were added in 2006. Flights will be added that travel to Germanys Dusseldorf International Airport in 2008. Ghana International Airlines began flying with a leased Boeing 757 in 2005. A Boeing 767 was later added.

Ghana International Airlines flies both passenger and cargo services flights. It provides multiple weekly flights from Accra to London. Continental Airlines united with GIA to offer airline passengers connecting flights to the majority of United States cities. This is provided through London Gatwick Airport. It is owned by the Ghanaian government (70%) and US consortium (GIA-USA) (30%) and has 168 employees (at March 2008). A country gifted with natural resources - namely gold, timber, and cocoa - Ghana is one of the wealthier West African nations.

Home to nearly 80 languages, the country was the first in sub-Saharan Africa to gain its independence from the UK, in 1957. Top attractions in Ghana include Accra's Christianborg Castle, the rainforest found in Kakum National Park and the heavily touristed and easily accessible Mole National Park. Most international tourists come into Ghana through the capital city, Accra. Regardless of where you enter the country, however, your first point of business when planning your Ghana vacation is to get your airline ticket to Ghana taken care of.
